Just catching up on the New York Times after a weekend away, and saw that FRANK RICH IS BACK!!! And in top form, comparing the Bush White House to the classic film “Carrie”. Read it here if you subscribe to Times Select.
Also, check out Salon’s coverage of Stephen Colbert’s performance at the White House Correspondent’s Association Dinner. You can watch his speech in full, plus a hilarious taped skit with Helen Thomas, here. Read the opinion piece on the speech here.
Mr Colbert was inspiring.
I just couldn’t believe that he was saying the things he was saying with Shrub less than 10 feet away. My favorite part was when he flipped off Scalia 5 different ways.
Too bad the room wasn’t miked like a comedy club… there have to have been more people laughing than it sounded like.

Meh. I thought the speech was awkward and bad, and the video at the end was completely anti-climatic. It’s not that the speech was not clever, but the conversion of formats did not succeed.
But Colbert is not used to delivering comedy in front of a crowd that is not overly effusive.
I’m surprised Bush have Colbert grabbed by GOPstapo and sent to Guantanamo.
