Won’t Be Fooled Again

“I am so behind on reading my New Yorkers. It’s bad.”

“Yeah, you really need to hit the unsubscribe button on that.”

“NO! I just need more time. And maybe a reading buddy. How about you start reading them too, and then we can discuss our favorite articles?”

“NO! I see what you’re doing here. You’re just trying to shoehorn more relationship into this relationship. I’m not falling for it.”

  1. So, I realized today that we haven’t talked in quite a while (more than a week!). So, I’m here to jog my memory. And I saw your New Yorker post. I *did* hit the unsubscribe button about a year ago. Ever since, I’ve been getting better offer after better offer to the point where I think it would cost me a dollar to resubscribe.

My point is that while I miss it (especially when in a bookstore and I see it there next to the Atlantic Monthly’s and Harper’s I have also abandoned), I now don’t have the guilt of going through the never-ending routine…letting them pile up until going on a trip, cherry picking articles and avoiding the ones that involve delving into topics I don’t have time for, etc. I don’t recommend that you follow my path but I do recommend taking time to indulge in keeping OR unsubcribing without guilt.

  2. “…shoehorn more relationship into this relationship…” Best quote of 2007.

  3. […] I experimented with taking the trolley to work last Friday, and aside from the fact that it adds an hour each way onto my 20 minute commute, it wasn’t so bad. Perhaps this is the reading time I need to keep up with my New Yorker subscription? […]
